If you’re into skincare, you have probably heard of cleansing oils. But what are they and why should you use one? Keep reading to find out!

What is cleansing oil?

When people think of cleansers, they are typically referencing water-based cleaners that lather and foam to varying degrees. Cleansing oils do not lather, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t an effective form of cleaning!

Cleansing oils are oil-based cleansers for your skin. The oils bond with and dissolve the dirt and oil on your skin to clean your face without stripping it of its moisture.

Why use cleansing oil?

Cleansing oil is a great option for all skin types. If you have dry skin, it is an effective way to remove makeup and debris from your face without making your skin even drier (as some water-based cleansers can).

Oily skin types can also benefit from oil cleansing because the oils in the product are attracted to other types of oils, such as sebum produced by our skin.

How to use cleansing oil

Cleansing oils can be applied to wet or dry skin, depending on the particular cleanser. Apply the oil to your skin and rub in circular motions to remove makeup, sunscreen, and dirt.

Depending on the specific cleanser, you can either rinse it off with water or wipe it off with a cloth and warm water.

Oil cleansing can also be the first step in a double-cleansing routine where a water-based cleanser is used after the oil cleanser to deeply cleanse the skin.
