We get a lot of questions about if all of the products we carry are “clean” or “nontoxic.” The honest answer is that it depends on who is asking!
Our mission at New Moon Refillery is to reduce the amount of plastic packaging going to landfills, and our hope is to do that by making home and personal care products as easy to refill as possible for as many people as possible.
We don’t use terms such as “clean” to describe our refillable product offerings because it means something a little different to everyone. In fact, the nonprofit organization Environmental Defense Fund noted in 2021 that companies entering the clean beauty market can, and are, using the term “clean” to mean a variety of things, with the resulting lack of uniformity undermining consumer confidence in what products truly are safer.
Through our experience sourcing products, we have discovered that the brands who care enough about the planet to create bulk-sized products for refilling also tend to be more intentional about their ingredients. In other words, if the brands we carry were sold at big box stores, you’d certainly find them in the “clean” aisle!
We work hard to offer a variety of brands, formulations, scents, and prices because we know everyone’s needs and preferences are unique.
